Still dreaming of the right tree for your block? Sign up for our end of season Community Tree Planting!

Dear Staff,

The Greening of Detroit is currently seeking 3 or 4 community groups to participate in a Community Tree Planting in their own neighborhood. Are you or anyone you know a good candidate?

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until Noon, Friday, November 30. Any applications received after this date will be considered for the 2019 Spring or Fall planting season. Qualifying organizations include: Block clubs, religious groups, non-profits, small business, a collection of neighbors, CDCs, etc. Both shade and ornamental trees are available for planting on private property that is owned by a member of your group or organization.

Interested community leaders will need to demonstrate their group’s commitment and ability to participate in the community organized planting, as well as water and care for the trees in the coming seasons. In exchange, The Greening will provide professional tree consultation, a minimum of 10 trees, tools, planting materials, and an onsite planting demonstration for a fun, one day planting event before Dec. 11. Based on timing, The Greening would be happy to present at an upcoming community meeting on the benefits of trees, as well as community concerns around trees, before or after the planting.

If you, or anyone you know, is interested in this opportunity please have them fill out our Community Tree Application online: https://www.greeningofdetroit.com/community-tree-planting

For a hard copy or questions, reach out to Ryan: ryan@greeningofdetroit.com or 313-402-6740. As always, individual tree questions can be directed to Drew or Nate.

If you would like to discuss further about how community organization’s can work with The Greening in community forestry, native plants and gardens, or green stormwater infrastructure in 2019, please reach out to me directly.

Thank you and have a blessed day!
